Make Sure You're Ready to Vote

The most important thing you can do right now is make sure your voter information is up to date.

Confirmed your voter registration status, at https://woodstock.voterservices.ca/

Remember: you must be registered by September 15 to receive a Voter Notification Letter.

Voter Notification Letters will be mailed in late September. When yours arrives, be sure to keep it in a safe place, as it contains important information about your voting options, including everything you'll need to cast your ballot online.

Check Your Registration

Use the City's Voter Registration portal to:

  • Confirm that you're registered to vote
  • Update your name or address
  • Add yourself to the Voters' List
  • Remove outdated information

You should check your information if you have:

  • Moved or changed your address
  • Changed your name
  • Purchased or rented a new property
  • Sold a property or moved away
  • Never voted in an Ontario election before

Learn More About Voting in Woodstock:

The City of Woodstock will conduct voting online from October 10, 2026 at 10:00 AM until October 25, 2026 at 8:00 PM. During this period, eligible electors can vote from anywhere at any time using an internet-connected device.

Electors whose voter information is up to date on the Voters' List will receive a Voter Notification Letter (VNL) by mail in late September or early October. The deadline to register or update your information to receive a VNL by mail is September 15, 2026.

Your VNL will contain:

  • A unique Personal Identification Number (PIN)
  • The website address for the City of Woodstock's online voting system

To vote online, you will need:

  • Your PIN
  • Your date of birth
  • A one-time password (OTP) sent to your Canadian telephone number

The City of Woodstock's online voting system is secure and confidential. Your unique PIN and one-time password help protect the integrity of the election and ensure that each eligible elector can cast only one ballot.

If you do not receive your VNL, have misplaced it, or need to update your voter information, please contact City staff at 519-539-1291. New voting credentials can be issued if necessary.

Please note that electors who have started the voting process before 8:00 PM on October 25 will be permitted to complete their ballot. However, no new voting sessions may be started after voting closes.

The City of Woodstock will post instructional videos and other resources on this webpage before voting begins. These materials will provide step-by-step guidance on how to cast your ballot online and answer common questions about the voting process.

Advance polls will be open on October 10, 13, 14, 15, and 16, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM each day. Advance voting will be available exclusively at Goff Hall (381 Finkle St.).

Voting Day is October 26, 2026, with polls open from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM - on this day, you may vote at any of the following locations:

  • Goff Hall (381 Finkle St.)
  • Algonquin Public School (59 Algonquin Rd.)
  • Cowan Sportsplex (895 Ridgewood Rd.)
  • Unifor Hall (126 Beale St.)

If you intend to vote in person, you must bring ID showing your name and qualifying Woodstock address. The following are valid forms of ID:

  • Driver’s licence or Ontario Photo Card
  • Utility bill (e.g., hydro, water, gas)
  • Bank statement or credit card statement
  • Property tax bill or lease agreement
  • Government-issued cheque or correspondence

You are also encouraged to bring your Voter Notification Letter for a faster sign-in process.

If your school board support needs to be updated, you can request a change using an EL-52 Application to Amend the Voters’ List.

School support determines which school board election you vote in:

  • English Public;
  • English Separate/Catholic;
  • French Public; or
  • French Separate/Catholic

Provincial tools (MPAC) to update school support closed on June 1, 2026, so if your designation is incorrect, you must update it through the City.

EL-52 applications must be completed in person at the Clerks Office located in City Hall. Please bring identification showing your name and Woodstock address. City staff will review your application with you and confirm your eligibility at the time of submission.

Who Qualifies as a Non-Resident Elector?

You may qualify as a non-resident elector in Woodstock if:

  • You do not live in Woodstock; and
  • You personally own or rent property in Woodstock.

Property must be owned or rented by you personally. You do not qualify as a non-resident elector if the property is owned by a corporation, business, trust, or another entity.

If you qualify as a non-resident elector in Woodstock, you may still vote in the municipality where you live, provided you are otherwise eligible to vote there.

The spouse of a non-resident elector may also be eligible to vote in Woodstock. 

Please note: You may only vote once in any given school board election. For example, if you own or rent property in multiple municipalities and those municipalities all elect trustees for the same school board, you may only vote in that school board contest once, even though you may be eligible to vote in each municipal election.

Students

Students may be eligible to vote in more than one municipal election.

If you are attending school away from home and intend to return to your permanent home when your studies are complete, you may be eligible to vote:

  • In the municipality where you normally live; and
  • In the municipality where you reside while attending school.

Looking for Information in Another Municipality?

If you own or rent property in another municipality and wish to vote there as a non-resident elector, please review that municipality's resources for information about voter registration, deadlines, and voting options. Each municipality is responsible for maintaining its own Voters' List and administering its own election(s).

If you are unable to attend a voting place and cast your ballot in-person, you may appoint another eligible elector to vote on your behalf using an Appointment for Voting Proxy (ON-3) form.

Eligible electors may appoint a proxy beginning Monday, August 24, 2026. Proxy voting is available for in-person voting only and cannot be used for online voting. 

Where and when to submit a proxy application

Appointment for Voting Proxy forms must be certified in-person at the Clerk's Office located in City Hall.

  • Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM
  • On any day of an advance vote, 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM

What to bring when submitting a proxy application 

The individual being appointed as the proxy must attend and bring:

The Ontario Register of Future Voters is designed for eligible 16 and 17-year-olds so that they will automatically be added to the Register when they turn 18.
