Property Standards
Our municipal code outlines rules on maintenance and occupancy that all property owners must follow. If believe a property does not meet these rules you can file a property standards complaint by emailing or calling our bylaw enforcement division at (519) 539-2382 ext. 3160.
Common Maintenance Requirements
Snow Removal
- Property owners have 24 hours from the end of a snowfall to clear snow and ice from their sidewalks. (Section 513.3.1)
- Downtown properties must have the sidewalks fronting their establishment cleared of ice / snow between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. (Section 513.3.2)
Yard / Lot Maintenance
Yards must be clear of:
- Garbage, debris or conditions that create health, fire or accident hazards
- Long grass (over 20 cm), brush, undergrowth and noxious weeds
- Injurious insects, termites, rodents, vermin or other pests
- All types of unlicensed vehicles

Property Standards Advisory Committee
The Property Standards Advisory Committee is a committee appointed by City Council to consider appeals to orders to comply issued by City bylaw officers, dog muzzle orders and fence views.
