- Place an Oxford County bag tag on each bag you set out. Both ends of the tag must be visible.
- Place a bag tag on the top bag in your container (not on the lid).
- Use the appropriate amount of bag tags required for collection.
- Place your garbage out before 7 a.m. on your collection day.
- Garbage cannot weight more than under 20kg (44lbs). This weight also includes the container. Therefore both the container and garbage must be under 20kg (44lbs).
- Place your garbage 1m from the curb and in a visible location to drivers.
- Place any broken glass in a small cardboard box and label it “Caution. Broken glass/sharp material inside”.
Garbage
Starting in January 2026, Oxford County is implementing a new six-day rotating collection schedule for garbage and introducing green bin organics collection.
The city is divided into different zones that determine your collection day. All households should have received a letter from Oxford County in December 2025 letting them know their new zone and collection schedule.
Bag Tags
To help offset the cost of the curbside garbage collection program, Oxford County uses garbage bag tags. Starting in January 2026, the cost of bag tags are $3 each and available online or at retail outlets throughout the County. Using bag tags helps keep the total cost of the program down and rewards people for reducing the amount of garbage they throw out.
We have also developed "at a glance" schedules for each zone for those who prefer a paper reminder. Once you determine your zone, you can download the 2026 schedule below and stick on your fridge, garage door or save on your phone. These quick reference sheets are approximately 11 cm x 14 cm (4.25" x 5.5").
Rules
To ensure your garbage is collected, please review the Do's and Don'ts below. You can also find details of our garbage and recycling program, collection dates and important reminders in our City Services Calendar. The 2026 City Services Calendar is in production and will be available before the end of January.
- Don't place any sharps or needles in your garbage (this includes sharp metal, broken glass, broken ceramics, etc.) because it creates a serious safety hazard for our operators and can result in deep cuts or disease.
- Needles/sharps are not accepted in our waste program and must be disposed of properly.
- Don't place loose garbage inside a container.
- Don't leave ripped or damaged bags out for collection as they will attract animals or create a mess in the neighbourhood. Any debris left from bags or animals is the property owner’s responsibility to clean up.
- Don't place garbage on snow banks as it's a safety hazard for garbage collection staff. Our operators will not climb to retrieve garbage bags.
- Don't place bag tags on a garbage container. Bag tags need to be attached to your bags each time in order to be collected.
- Don't exceed the maximum weight of 20 kg (44lbs) per bag to protect our employees' safety. Overweight bags will not be collected.
Did we miss your property?
If we miss your property for garbage collection, please contact the Engineering and Public Works Department by calling 519-539-2382 ext. 3104 or 3102.
However, if you have not followed our procedures correctly, your garbage will not be picked up and you will be responsible for disposing of the materials yourself. Household garbage may be dropped off at the Oxford Landfill in Salford Ontario and recycling may be put out for your next collection day. Please note that the EnviroDepot can not accept household garbage or organics. As of Dec. 31, 2025, recycling and Styrofoam materials are no longer accepted at the EnviroDepot due to the province-wide recycling changes.
Herbie Curbie (Large Cart Pick-up)
Each large cart requires three (3) bag tags, which is to be left loose on top of the garbage and visible to our drivers.
Please note, we no longer sell the Herbie Curbie. You may not replace your broken Herbie Curbie with another style as it will not be retrofitted properly for our trucks. Broken carts can be placed out for large item collection or dropped at the EnviroDepot at 944 James St.
The large cart collection is not the same as large or bulk item collection.
