Parking Exemptions
In Woodstock, we aim to keep our streets safe, accessible, and easy to navigate. Please keep the following general parking rules in mind:
Parking is allowed
- On City streets for up to five hours, unless otherwise posted
- On downtown streets for up to two hours, unless otherwise posted
Parking is not allowed
- On boulevards
- On City streets between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. from Dec. 1 to March 31
If you’re unable to meet these requirements due to unique circumstances, you may be eligible for a parking exemption.
Boulevard Parking Exemptions
Boulevard parking is generally prohibited under the City's Parking and Driving on Boulevards Bylaw. However, exemptions may be granted when no reasonable alternative exists. To qualify, one or more of the following conditions must apply:
- The property does not have a garage.
- There is less than 2.5 metres between the dwelling and the boulevard and/or constructing a driveway or parking area is not practical.
- The property has an existing agreement with the City to lease a parking space on the boulevard.
How to Apply
To apply for a residential or commercial boulevard parking exemption, please submit a written request to the Engineering Department that includes:
- A copy of the property survey showing the proposed parking location. If a survey is not available, a drawing with dimensions is acceptable.
- A $50 non-refundable registration fee.
If your request is approved, you will need to obtain a cost estimate for the required work from a qualified contractor, subject to approval by the City Engineer.
If your request is denied, you may appeal the decision to Council at your discretion.
Boulevard parking exemptions may be transferred to future property owners, provided the original owner receives approval from the City Engineer.
Overnight Street Parking Exemptions
Overnight parking on any City street—and in select municipal parking lots—is not permitted from Dec. 1 to March 31 between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. You may be eligible for an exemption if no other practical parking option is available.
You may qualify if
- Your property has one parking space or less
- Your property is a single detached dwelling (R1)
- Your property cannot accommodate off-street parking, or you have been denied approval for boulevard parking
How to Apply
If you believe you qualify, please submit an Overnight Parking Exemption Application.
Please note:
- No commercial vehicles are eligible for an exemption
- The exemption does not apply to other traffic bylaw violations
- Permits are valid only on side streets
- The fee for the permit is $42.75 (including taxes)
