National Day for Truth and Reconciliation 2026 Commemoration

In honour of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (NDTR) on Sept. 30, 2026, the City of Woodstock invites all residents to come together, learn and take action towards reconciliation in our community.

The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation commemorates the survivors and lost children of the residential school system in Canada and raises awareness of the ongoing inter-generational impacts of our country’s tragic and painful history.

Flag Raisings and Reception

The Every Child Matters Flag will be raised in Woodstock on Friday, Sept. 25:

• Oxford County Administration Building at 9 a.m.
• Museum Square at 9:30 a.m.

Following the flag raisings, the Woodstock Art Gallery will be hosting a reception at 10 a.m. in partnership with Two Row Culture and Community Centre, with light refreshments and a teaching led by Rebecca Neepin.

Truth and Reconciliation March

The 2nd Annual Truth and Reconciliation March will take place on Sunday, Sept. 27 from 12 – 5 p.m. in Museum Square.

Organized by Two Row Culture and Community Centre, this gathering brings Indigenous and non-Indigenous community members together to honour survivors, remember the children who never returned home, celebrate Indigenous culture and continue the work of truth and reconciliation.

Orange Shirt Day

The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation also coincides with Orange Shirt Day, an Indigenous-led grassroots movement inspired by the story of residential school survivor Phyllis Webstad.

Orange shirts are available to purchase at the Woodstock Museum NHS. Funds raised from the shirts directly support local programming, education and events including the Annual Truth and Reconciliation March.
