How Residents can ‘get rid of’ their fallen leaves

Woodstock - With the arrival of fall the City of Woodstock would like to remind its residents of the options available for dealing with fallen leaves.

Mulching and composting fallen leaves has great benefits for lawns and gardens. Mulched leaves add nutrients and help maintain moisture in the soil, they can also help reduce weed growth with consistent use.

Alternatively, residents can drop their leaves off free of charge at the Yard Waste Depot. The Depot is located at 944 James St. and is open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Leaves dropped off at the Depot cannot be left in bags.

Residents can also rake their leaves to the curb for collection. Loose leaf collection runs from Oct. 20 to Nov. 28, however, due to the weather, the leaves have not fallen throughout most areas of the city. As a result, staff will concentrate only in the areas that have already seen significant leaf drop for the week of Oct. 20. Staff will then begin rotating through the nine zones for the duration of the program.

Please do not bag your leaves as bagged leaves cannot be picked up by the City’s equipment. A map showing collection zones can be found online or in October’s edition of What’s on Woodstock. To stay updated with which zone City staff are working on be sure to follow the City’s social media channels during the collection period.
