Highlights from the Sept. 4 Council Meeting

Woodstock – Thursday’s Council meeting began at 1:30 p.m. following a closed session. Mayor Acchione opened the meeting by issuing a proclamation in support of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oxford County’s Spark Campaign.

While it was a pretty light agenda, the highlights include:

2026 Budget Meeting Schedule

Council approved the meeting schedule for the 2026 budget deliberations. Each year Council is presented with the City’s budget for consideration and approval. The City budget is divided into two parts, the capital budget which outlines the funds needed to purchase, upgrade or build city owned assets like equipment, roads and facilities and the operating, or revenue fund, budget which provides the funds for program and service delivery including facility and equipment operating expenses. Approval of General Levy By-law

 

Navy Vet Club Pond

As a result of ongoing water level issues with the pond at the Navy Vets Club on James Street, that started late in 2024, Council approved funding for further geotechnical and hydrologic study of the situation. The study will investigate the cause and identify any potential solutions that would restore the pond to original water levels.  

Community Improvement Plan Approvals

Council approved funding from the Community Improvement Plan (CIP) for four applications into the program. The CIP program is intended to support private sector investment in the downtown through a variety support programs. Eligible projects can receive grants for a maximum of 50 per cent of the total improvements. The recipients are completing a range of projects including additional housing units, improved signage and lighting and façade improvements.
