Highlights from the Oct. 1 Council Meeting
Thursday’s Council meeting got underway at 1:30 p.m. and began with the Mayor reading a proclamation recognizing September 30th as the day of Truth and Reconciliation followed by another proclaiming the month of October as the 3rd Annual Family History Month in the City of Woodstock.
Council received a delegation from a community member presenting a petition requesting to keep the name of Indian Road which Council referred to the ongoing consultation on the matter.
The Woodstock Police Service (WPS) gave a presentation about electric kick-scooters and micromobility devices and discussed public safety risks, enforcement challenges and local trends. Council directed city staff to work with WPS on public education regarding electric kick-scooters and micromobility devices.
The following items were included on the agenda:
Interim 2027 Taxi Licensing and Rideshare Regulation Approach
Council approved the cancellation of a portion of taxi and limousine licensing fees for 2027. Additionally, the city will wait for the province to complete its review of rideshare services before considering new local rules for transportation companies.
Once more information is available, staff would report back to Council with recommended changes and proposed licensing fees for 2028.
