All brush, limbs and/or hedges must be tied in bundles and placed at the curb by 7:30 a.m. on the Monday prior to each scheduled collection week. Brush can also be dropped off at the Yard Waste Depot at 944 James Street. The depot is open seven days a week from 8:00 a.m to dusk.  The yard waste depot is open seven days a week from 8:00 a.m. ot dusk.

Brush collection weeks

Please remember to place all items out on Monday prior to each scheduled collection week! If you place these items out after Monday, it will not be picked up. You may then bring your brush to our yard waste depot located off James Street between Springbank Avenue and Clarke Street.

  • Week of April 9 - 13, 2018.
  • Week of October 9 - 12, 2018.

Curbside Loose Leaf Collection

Please take note, there is no longer a schedule of when leaves will be picked up in a particular area of the city.  Depending on the amount of leaves that have fallen, and the equipment scheduled during the week, our staff should be able to do a full sweep of the city in one week.  And each week we start over again until the last scheduled week of collection or when the snow interfers with our operations.

If you are worried about leaves blowing back onto your property or your neighbour's property, you may bring your leaves to our yard waste depot, which is open seven days a week for your convenience!

Only loose leaves may be raked, as close as possible, to the curb on the roadside.  Leave on the boulevard will not be picked up.

Loose leaf curbside schedule

  • Begins the week of October 15, 2018, and
  • Ends the week of December 3, 2018.

Residents are asked to keep raking their leaves to the curb as the leaves fall during the scheduled collection weeks noted above.  We kindly ask that residence rake all their leaves to the curb no later than Sunday, December 2, 2018.  Leaves raked to the curb after this date may not be picked up.

Helpful tips

  • Pile loose leaves neatly along the curb on the roadside.
  • Please do not mix rocks, branches or other debris with the leaves. These materials pose a safety risk to crews and may cause mechanical failure and scheduling issues.
  • Do not place brush, ornamental grasses, potting material or bagged leaves at the curb.  These items can be dropped off at the yard waste depot at 944 James Street from 8:00 a.m. to dusk, seven days a week.
  • Avoid parking vehicles on top of the piles as much as possible. This makes it difficult for the sweeper and vacuum truck to take up the leaves properly.
  • Avoid piling leaves over top catch basins/ storm drains, which can lead to flooding during storm events.  Your assistance in keeping catch basins clear of debris is most gratefully appreciated!
  • Be mindful of bike lanes.
  • Children should not play in the leaves to ensure their safety.

Other options for disposing leaves

  • Bring your leaves to our yard waste depot at 944 James Street (Hours of operations: 8:00 a.m. to dusk).
  • Mulch them with your lawn mower.
  • Place them in your backyard composter.

Pumpkins

Rather than disposing of pumpkins at the curb, please help us divert that waste to a more greener option and bring your pumpkins to our yard waste depot!  There is no charge to dispose of yard waste materials and the depot is open seven days a week from 8:00 a.m. to dusk.  The depot is located at 944 James Street.

Other options

You may also dispose of pumpkins in your back yard composters or in the greencone!  Cutting up your pumpkins to smaller pieces will help the composting process, but is not necessary.

If you do put your pumpkins out at the curb, you will need to place them in a garbage bag and tag it as household garbage.  Please remember the weight restrictions for all garbage bags - 44lbs or 20 kg maximum.

Christmas Tree Collection

Christmas trees must be placed in a visible area within 1m or 3 ft from the curb and out by 7:30 a.m. on the collection week. Please do not leave the tree in a bag at the curb. Your Christmas tree will not bit picked up if it is wrapped in a bag.

Trees must be placed at the curb before the Monday of our collection week and not on your garbage and recycling collection day. Depending on weather, our staff can usually have all trees picked up before mid week.  If you place you tree out after Monday, and we have been in your area, we will not be able to double back..  You will then need to bring your tree to our yard waste depot.

Also, please be mindful of when we have a snow event or when blow or shovel your property not to cover your Christmas tree.  If it does get covered with snow, please move it back on top of the snow pile. Trees buried in the snow will not be picked up.

Another option for disposing of your tree

Rather than wait for our collection week, trees may be dropped off at the yard waste depot at 944 James Street and placed in the brush pile.  The depot is open seven days a week, from 8:00 a.m. to dusk.

Christmas tree collection week

  • Week of January 14 - 18, 2019.
