  • Week of October 5-9, 2020

Curbside Loose Leaf Collection

The City of Woodstock offers a high level of service when it comes to fall leaf collection! Unfortunately, this amazing program is weather dependent! That is, the weather must be cold enough for all the leaves to fall during our eight week program, but warm enough that it does not snow or freeze the piles and hinder our efforts.

Program Details

There is no longer a schedule of when leaves will be picked up in a particular area of the city. Staff will be working hard to collect leaves throughout the city until the last scheduled week of collection. During this time of year however, there are many factors out of our control, cold and freezing temperatures, snow events, mother nature - trees do not always drop all their leaves at once, and equipment repairs. Knowing this, we cannot guarantee that we will make it back to your area more than once during the collection schedule.

If you are concerned that your tree has not dropped all their leaves at once, worried about leaves blowing back onto your property or your neighbour's property, or because of weather conditions we may not be able to complete your area instead of raking your leaves to the curb please bring them to our yard waste depot!  Our depot is open seven days a week from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. for your convenience, and it is FREE!!!

Should we get an early snow event, we do not have enough staff and equipment to operate both programs at the same time and winter control operations becomes our main priority. If the weather warms up before the end of our scheduled collection, we will resume leaf pickup at a reduced capacity as some of our equipment will be changed over to winter control attachments.

Curbside Schedule

  • Begins the week of October 19, 2020 through to the week of November 23, 2020.

Only loose leaves may be raked, as close as possible, to the curb on the roadside. Leaves on the boulevard will not be picked up. Bagged leaves will not be picked up as well. Leaves raked to the curb after the date noted below will not be picked up.

Please do not rake leaves to the curb after Sunday, November 22, 2020!

Helpful Tips

  • Pile loose leaves neatly along the curb on the roadside.
  • Please do not mix rocks, branches or other debris with the leaves. These materials pose a safety risk to crews and may cause mechanical failure and scheduling issues.
  • Do not place brush, ornamental grasses, potting material or bagged leaves at the curb.  These items can be dropped off at the yard waste depot at 944 James Street from 8:00 a.m. to dusk, seven days a week.
  • Avoid parking vehicles on top of the piles as much as possible. This makes it difficult for the sweeper and vacuum truck to take up the leaves properly.
  • Avoid piling leaves over top catch basins/ storm drains, which can lead to flooding during storm events.  Your assistance in keeping catch basins clear of debris is most gratefully appreciated!
  • Be mindful of bike lanes.
  • Children should not play in the leaves to ensure their safety.

Other Options for Disposing Leaves!!

  • Bring your leaves to our yard waste depot!  By doing this, you are guaranteed that the leaves will not blow back onto your property or your neighbour's property before we can get there.  It also keeps our roadside clear of leaves for parked vehicles and snow removal.  The depot is located at 944 James Street and hours of operations are from  8:00 a.m. to dusk; seven days a week.
  • Mulch them with your lawn mower!  This is a great way to feed your lawn and get a great start to a healthier lawn.
  • Place them in your backyard composter!  Once your leaves break down, you will have compost to add to your gardens or lawns.  Be sure you do not compacted the leaves and stir the pile occasionally to bring in air to help with the decomposing process.

Rather than disposing of pumpkins in your household garbage, please help us divert that waste to a more greener option and bring your pumpkins to our yard waste depot!  There is no charge to dispose of yard waste materials and the depot is open seven days a week from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., located at 944 James Street.

Other Option

You may also dispose of pumpkins in your back yard composter or greencone!  Cutting up your pumpkins to smaller pieces will help the composting process, but is not necessary.

If you are not able to compost them or bring them to our yard water depot, you will need to place them in a garbage bag and tag it as household garbage.  Please remember the weight restrictions for all garbage bags is 44 lbs or 20 kg maximum.

Christmas Tree Collection

Program Details

Christmas trees must be placed in a visible area within 1m or 3 ft. from the curb and out by 7:00 a.m. on the collection week. Please do not leave the tree in a bag at the curb. Your Christmas tree will not bit picked up if it is wrapped in a bag.

Trees must be placed at the curb before the Monday of our collection week and not on your garbage and recycling collection day. Depending on weather, our staff can usually have all trees picked up before mid week. If you place you tree out after Monday, and we have been in your area, we will not be able to double back. You will then need to bring your tree to our yard waste depot.

Please be mindful of when there is a snow event or blowing snow, when you shovel your property not to cover your Christmas tree. If it does get covered with snow, please move it back on top of the snow pile. Trees buried in the snow will not be picked up.

Curbside Schedule

  • Week of January 11-15, 2021

Other Option

Rather than wait for our collection week, trees may be dropped off at the yard waste depot at 944 James Street and placed in the brush pile. The depot is open seven days a week, from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
