Waste Collection Changes

close up of garbage bins on curbside

Changes are coming to curbside collection starting in January 2026!

This shift is part of legislative changes to how recycling is managed across the province and will roll out at the same time as a rotating six-day collection cycle for garbage and curbside organics collection.

These changes will also help divert more waste from landfills by introducing curbside organics collection.

We understand change can be challenging but we’re committed to providing residents with tools and resources to support them and are confident the changes will result in an improved level of service for the community.

The City's website will be update as program details are finalized. Staff provided an update on the changes at the Aug. 14 City Council meeting. You can also find more information on the Oxford County project page

The 2026 schedule is now available and Circular Materials confirmed that recycling will be collected on the same day as garbage and organics. More detailed resources are now being finalized but you can download the 2026 Collection schedule below.

NEW! 2026 Garbage, Organics and Recycling Schedule

Household Garbage & Organics

  • As of January 2026, the City of Woodstock will be under a six-day cycle for co-collection (pick up at the same time) of household garbage and organic waste and recycling.
  • Under this type of schedule, your collection day moves one day forward from week to week, skipping weekends and holidays.
  • Our city services calendar will be mailed out at the beginning of new year.
  • Download the Wasteline app from you App Store or Google Play to stay up to date on garbage and waste collection schedules

New Organics (Green Bin)

  • This new program will collect food scraps and other biodegradable waste as part of the residential curbside collection program.
  • When they join the program, each Oxford County residence will receive a 7-litre kitchen container to collect food scraps and a 45-litre green bin to set out at the curb on collection day.
  • Organics collection starts in Woodstock in January 2026. Residents should have receive their green bin containers.  If you have not, please contact Oxford County at 519-539-9800 ext.
  • Please visit the Oxford County website for more information on the green bin program, how to use your new green bin, what you can or cannot place in your green bin, and more.
  • If you would like to purchase additional Green Bins or Kitchen Caddies, they are available at the Office of the City Engineer, 944 James Street.
    • Fees:
      • 45L Green Bin - $19.00
      • 7L Kitchen Caddy - $3.00

Recycling

  • Under the Resource Recovery and Circular Economy Act, responsibility for providing recycling services has now shifted to the producers (retailers, manufacturers, etc.) that create products and packaging. This change began in July 2023 and takes effect in Oxford County on January 1, 2026. Visit Blue Box - RPRA to learn more.
  • More information and a list acceptable materials for the new blue box program will be sent to homes from Circular Materials this fall.  Please visit their website for more details on this as well.

ICI (Industrial/Commercial/Institutional)

  • The new province-wide recycling program for Ontario only collects recycling from residential properties.  The legislation excludes businesses and other organizations historically receiving blue box collection.
  • To address this service gap, Oxford County is implementing a new Business, Commercial, and Institutional (BCI) curbside recycling collection program. Businesses must register online with the County to participate and must meet the program requirements.

2026 City Services Calendars

Now that we have confirmation of the collection schedules for garbage, green bin (organics) and recycling, the 2026 calendars are in production. Our goals is to have the new calendars available in January.

2025 Holiday and 2026 Transition Schedule

We know there is a lot of questions about what to do with your waste over the holidays with the schedule impacted by statutory holidays and the transition to the new schedule and zones. To help residents understand their collection options, we have put together a calendar showing collection schedule and options from Dec. 21, 2025 through Jan. 10, 2026.
