Training and Development
Woodstock Fire Department Training division provides training programs to all fire department personnel. Our training programs are continuously improving to meet the current and future needs of the department and the community.
Training facilities
The Woodstock Fire Department is an all hazards emergency response agency. This requires all 48 Fire Suppression staff to be well versed in multiple disciplines in order to meet the needs of our community. To this end, we are fortunate enough to have our own onsite training facility consisting of a Dräger Swede Survival System Phase 5 – Multi-Story structure. This will allow our crews to maintain skills in structural firefighting through the use of the two Class A, live fire burn rooms, along with the ability to simulate a multitude of other fire ground tasks. This may include basic hose handling, search and rescue skills right to advanced high angle technical rescue evolutions. The ability to train on-site at Station #1 allows our crews to hone their skills while remaining in service and ready to serve the community.
Recruitment training programs
The Office of the Fire Marshal has adopted the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards for training and education. The minimum standards include the NFPA 1001 Professional qualification standard for firefighters. Recruits participate in intensive training modules and exercises that include fire prevention and public education training. All divisions regularly participate in training exercises as part of ongoing skills development.
