Social Media Posting Guidelines
The City of Woodstock encourages open dialogue, respectful debate and questions from community members on its social media channels. However, the City will not tolerate posts or comments that include:
- Inappropriate or inflammatory language or profanity;
- Content that promotes, fosters, or perpetuates discrimination on the basis of race, creed, age, physical or mental disability, religion, gender, gender identity or gender expression, sexual orientation, nation of origin, or status;
- Abusive, defamatory, disrespectful or insulting comments about City staff or representatives;
- Encouragement or undertaking of illegal activity;
- Comments/posts not related to a posted article/topic/information;
- Commercial endorsement, promotion of products or services or business solicitation;
- Sexual content or links to sexual content;
- Defamatory, libellous, threatens personal attack (including self-harm) against an individual or organization
- Any content deemed inappropriate by the City of Woodstock.
The City may hide or delete posts that violate our social media commenting guidelines. Users who violate these guidelines may be blocked or banned from our social media channels and will be reported. Users should also familiarize themselves and comply with the community guidelines of the individual social media platforms.
Third-party Events on City Websites / Social Media Feeds
The City of Woodstock may promote events on its social media sites where the City is involved as a participant, host or partner. However, the City does not promote third-party events on its social media channels.
There is a community events calendar on our website and the public is invited to submit events that:
- Take place in Woodstock
- Are open to the general public
- Do not encourage discrimination on any basis or that violate the principles of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms
Please submit your request at least two weeks before your event is to take place to allow staff time to review your submission and publish the event on the calendar.
