Sign Permit
A sign permit is required for any sign or advertising device, including:
- Ground signs
- Wall signs
- Marquee signs
- Awning and projecting signs
- Pole signs
- Roof signs
- Temporary mobile signs
Permits are not required for sandwich board signs or election signs.
Apply for a Sign Permit
To apply for a sign permit you must include:
- Sign Permit Application
- Site Plan showing the location of the proposed sign
- Owner authorization letter (if you do not own the property)
For all temporary mobile signs, you must include the date of installation and the date of removal on the application.

Sight Triangle
A sight triangle is the triangular space formed by the street lines and a line drawn from a point in one street, to a point in the other street line, each point being 9 metres (29.5 feet), measured along the line from the point of intersection of the street lines. No sign shall be located on a corner lot, within this sight triangle.
Temporary Mobile Signs
Temporary mobile signs are intended for limited display and include all signs that are designed to be easily moved from place to place. Temporary mobile signs must:
- Be set up for no longer than 30 days within a calendar year, per business
- Not have flashing lights of any kind
- Not create traffic sight problems
Temporary mobile signs are prohibited on any non-residential zoned property in the area bounded by:

Sandwich Board Signs
You can have one sandwich board sign per property, permitted on the sidewalk in front of the business being advertised. This sign does not require a permit, however, the sign must:
- Be a maximum height of 3.5 feet and a maximum width of 2 feet
- Not have illumination or animation of any kind
- Be located between 2 feet and 4 feet from the curb
- Be displayed during business hours, between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m.
- Not impede pedestrian traffic
- Display the name and telephone number of the business
- Be located outside of the sight triangle
