Parking Permits
Municipal Parking Lot Permit
To purchase a permit for one of our municipal parking lots please submit an application to our Engineering Department. Please note that these permits are only valid in our Permit Designated parking lots and not valid on any street or in any two-hour only posted lots. You must adhere to all posted signage including overnight parking restrictions. Our permit fees are as follows:
- Monthly Parking Permit: $36 plus taxes.
- Semi-Annual Parking Permit: $180 plus taxes.
- Annual Parking Permit: $288 plus taxes.
Overnight Municipal Lot Parking Permit
If you live in a residential property in our downtown core and do not have a designated parking space or other arrangements, you are required to make use of our municipal parking lots downtown. Vehicles may park in our lots after business hours from 6 p.m. - 8 a.m., Monday - Saturday, and all-day Sunday for free. If you need to park your vehicle in our lots outside of these hours, you must purchase a parking permit or a pay and display ticket.
Please ensure that you are parking on the side of the lot designated for the day when your car will be parked between 2 a.m. - 6 a.m., there are signs denoting what side of the lot to park in.
The following municipal lots are the only lots where overnight parking is permitted between Dec. 1 - March 31:
- Market Centre Lot
- Brock St. Lot
- Light St. Lot
- Adelaide St. E Lot
- Cole Walkway Lot
Digital Parking Permit
To purchase a digital parking permit valid for our municipal parking lots, please visit the HotSpot Parking Portal or get the HotSpot Parking app. If you are unable to download the app or access the website, you can purchase a digital parking permit at our Engineering Department at 944 James St. Please note that if you do not have access to the app or website you will be unable to electronically change the vehicle plate number and will need to contact the Engineering Department to do so.
Temporary Overnight Parking Permit
If you require overnight street parking for guests or can't access your driveway due to repairs or construction, you can apply for a Temporary Overnight Parking Permit. This type of permit will not be issued for more than 14 days per property, per season. Please note that your permit application must be approved before parking on the street. The permit fee is $5 (including tax) per week. The fee will be waived if the owner can't access their driveway due to public utility or city work.
Temporary Parking for Construction Permit
Any buildings under construction or renovation in the downtown area where parking is required for construction vehicles or refuse bins on a city property require a Temporary Parking for Construction Permit. This permit allows a contractor's vehicle or refuse bin to be parked or located on the street beyond the 2-hour time restriction. The permit fee is $20 (including tax) per parking space. Contractors are responsible for providing their own barricades to reserve the necessary space(s).

The permit must be displayed in the vehicle's windshield. Refuse bins do not require a permit to be displayed, however, the contractor must have the permit on hand. The number of allotted permits is limited to the minimum number of required vehicles and refuse bins and shall be at the discretion of the city engineer. The permit will be valid for the minimum required time necessary to complete the construction and be at the discretion of the city engineer. The permit is not valid for use between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. Temporary construction permits may be cancelled at the discretion of the city engineer should the privilege be abused. Failure to comply with the conditions will result in the issuance of a parking infraction notice. |
