Boulevard Parking Exemptions

Although boulevard parking is not allowed per Municipal Code, Chapter 0500 - Parking - Driving on Boulevards, you may be eligible for an exemption if no other practical alternative can be found. The following conditions apply:

• The property does not have a garage.
• There is less than 2.5 metres between the dwelling and the boulevard and/or the construction of a driveway or parking lot is impractical.
• The property has an agreement with the city to lease a parking space on the boulevard.

To apply for a residential and commercial parking exemption please submit your request in writing to the Engineering Department with the following information:

• A copy of a survey plan for the property showing where you propose to park. If no survey plan is available please submit a drawing showing dimensions.
• A $50 non-refundable registration fee.

If your request is approved, you must obtain an estimate of the cost of completing the required work to the satisfaction of the City Engineer from a suitable contractor, and enter into an agreement with the City. If your request is denied, you may appeal the decision to Council at your own discretion. 

Boulevard parking exemptions can be transferred to subsequent property owners provided that the original property owner gets the City Engineer's approval.

Overnight Street Parking Exemptions

Overnight parking is not permitted on any city street or in some municipal parking lots from Dec. 1 to March 31 between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. You may be eligible for an exemption if no other practical alternative can be found. The following conditions apply:

• The property has one parking space or less.
• The property is a single detached dwelling/property (R1).
• The property doesn't have space to construct off-street parking spaces or has been refused approval to construct boulevard parking.

Please note that no commercial vehicles will receive an exemption, this permit does not apply to other traffic bylaw related offences and permits will only be valid for side-side streets. The fee for this permit is $42.75 (including taxes).
