Para-Transit

Check the expiration date on your specialized transit ID pass and be sure to reapply several weeks prior to when your pass expires so you are not without your ID pass when you need to book your rides.  You may contact the Engineering Department at 519-539-2382 ext. 3102 and 3104 for more information.

Specialized Transit Services

Specialized transit service is provided by the City of Woodstock.

This Service is:

A scheduled pre-booked bus, shared ride, door-to-door service.  The service is intended for those who, due to functional limitation/disability cannot board, ride or disembark from our regular transit fixed-route fully accessible buses.

To qualify, you must meet one of the following criteria:

• Unconditional: Riders require specialized services, i.e.: permanent disability.
• Temporary: Riders require specialized services for a limited duration, i.e.: temporary disability.
• Conditional: Riders require specialized services under certain circumstances, i.e.: during winter months (November 1 to March 31).

This Service is not:

A taxi service.  You must be ready to board the vehicle at your scheduled pickup time as we have other clients to pick up and a schedule to maintain. A service for seniors without a disability that prevents them from using our regular transit fixed-route, fully accessible, buses, or to replace conventional transit/regular fixed-route service when it is not in operation or not convenient to you.

SPECIAL NOTE: Did you know, all of our regular fixed-route buses are accessible and equipped with a ramp and the ability to 'kneel' lower to the ground.  There are no stairs on all our buses.  All stops are announced, and all bus stops and bus shelters are accessible.

How to Apply

1. Fill out Part A on the Specialized Transit Application (fillable form)/ Specialized Transit Application (printable form).  Be sure to fill this section out completely.  Missed information or questions may delay the approval process.
2. Print the entire application form (Part A and Part B) and take both parts to your health care provider and have them fill out Part B.  Acceptable health care providers is listed on the application. 
3. Return the completed application form the Engineering Office either in person at 944 James Street, Woodstock, ON, or by email to engineering@cityofwoodstock.ca.  (We are currently located at 21 Market Street, during construction at 944 James Street as there is no public access to the engineering/public works building).
4. We will notify you once we have reviewed and approved your request to use our specialized transit.  Your Specialized Transit ID Card will either be mailed to your or you can make arrangements to pick this up in person.  You are required to show the driver your ID Card each time you board the bus. (Additional Photo ID may also be required)
5. Please allow 5-10 business day for this process.  If you have not heard back from us after two weeks, please call 519-539-2382 ext. 3104 or 3102.

Scheduling Rides

All specialized transit rides must be booked a minimum 24 hours in advance. Same day rides are available depending on space. Please be sure to book your rides well in advance.

Fare

Cash fare for a single ride is $2.75.  Exact change is required at time of boarding when paying for a single ride.  All bus passes that are accepted by our conventional/fixed-route transit are also accepted by our specialized transit service. Riders with inadequate fare will be declined service.

Our drivers are required to follow their manifests/schedules and are not permitted to change your scheduled destination or book return rides.
