However, if you have missed a step below your garbage and recycling will not be picked up and you will be responsible for disposing of the materials yourself.  Household garbage may be dropped off at the Oxford Landfill in Salford Ontario or recycling to our Recycling Depot on Clarke Street South.  Or you may put out your items on your next collection week.

  • Your garbage and recycling must be placed out before 7:00 a.m. on your collection day.  You may place it out the night before; however you are responsible for cleaning up any debris or mess made by animals or on windy days.  For helpful tips on windy days, please visit our recycling collection page.
  • Your garbage may not exceed the maximum weight of 20 kg (44 lbs).
  • Place your garbage and recycling out no more than 1 meter (3ft) from the curb.
  • You must place an Oxford County Bag Tag on each garbage bag.  The tag must be visible at curb and must be stuck on the top half of the garbage bag with both ends of the tag visible.  Bag tags may be purchased from approved vendors. If you are using a container, place the tag on top of the materials inside.  The size of the garbage bag or container will determine if you are required to place one or two bag tags.  Follow the bag tag link for more information on the number of garbage tags needed, the cost of each tag and which vendors you may purchase the tags.
  • Have your recycling sorted properly.  Fibres and containers must be separated into its own recycling bins.  For information on sorting properly and what can and cannot be recycled, please visit our recycling webpage.
  • Please do not stuff your bins full.  Recycling must fall freely out of the bins.  Our staff pick up from approximately 1,500 households each day.  It is not feasible to stop even occasionally and pull out recycling that has been stuffed into bins is stuck to the bottom.  You may purchase additional recycling bins at the Engineering/Public Works Office at 944 James Street, or you may visit our recycling depot at the end of Clarke Street South.  Please visit our recycling webpage for addition information on our recycling depot and operation hours.
