Cleaning up your yard?  Yard waste may be dropped off at our Yard Waste Depot!  We accept grass, leaves, garden waste (flower/garden plants), weeds, saw dust, and pumpkins.

We do not accept sod, topsoil/dirt, rocks or items in plastic bags.  Please remove all garden/yard waste from plastic bags and take them back with you as we do not have a garbage container at this site.

There are separate areas within our depot to drop off your brush, limbs, hedge trimmings, and bushes, therefore please follow all signage and do not dump unacceptable items!  See our Brush, Leaf, and Christmas Tree Collection and/or Composting pages for more information on what can be dropped off at this location.

If you cannot wait until your next recycling collection week, our recycling depot is located at the deadend of Clarke Street South to help our residents manage their recycling. Residents may drop off acceptable recycling materials in the appropriate large bins located at our depot.  You will need to sort your recycling in the proper containers on site.  Please note that we do not take styrofoam at this site. Styrofoam is to be placed in your garbage bag, tagged and put out on your garbage collection day.  See our Recycling Collection page for more information.

How to Place Out Waste and Recycling for Collection

For more information on the collection schedule and service calendar, visit our Collection Schedule and Map and/or City Services Calendar pages.

Following the procedures outlined below will ensure your items are picked up.  If we miss your property, please contact the Engineering and Public Works Department by calling 519-539-2382 ext. 3104 or 3102.  However, if you have not followed our procedures correctly, your garbage and recycling will not be picked up and you will be responsible for disposing of the materials yourself.   Household garbage may be dropped off at the Oxford Landfill in Salford Ontario, and recycling materials may be put out on your next collection week or dropped off at our recycling depot on Clarke Street South.

  • Place out your garbage and recycling before 7:00 a.m. on your collection day.  If you place it out the night before, you will be responsible for cleaning up any debris or mess created by animals mischief or windy conditions. For helpful tips on windy days, please visit our Recycling Collection page.
  • Do not exceed the maximum weight of 20 kg (44 lbs).
  • Place your garbage and recycling 1 meter (3ft) from the curb, and in a location that is visible to our drivers.
  • Place an Oxford County Garbage Bag Tag on each garbage bag you set out.  The tag must be visible at curb and must be stuck on the top half of the garbage bag with both ends of the tag visible. To prevent your bag tag from being stolen or ripped off your bag, it's recommended that you adhere the tag to the collar of the bag with both ends stuck together. Remember, it is important that both ends are still visible!  For locations of Bag Tag Vendors follow the link to the Oxford County website and scroll down to the bottom of the page.
  • If you are using a container and placing garbage loosely in your container, place the tag on top of the materials inside.  The size of the garbage container will determine if you are required to place one or two bag tags.  Follow the Garbage Bag Tags link for more information on the number of garbage tags needed and the cost of each tag.
  • Have your recycling sorted properly!  City of Woodstock residents must separate their Fibres and Containers into a separate bins. For information on sorting properly and what can and cannot be recycled, please visit our Recycling Collection page.
  • Please do not stuff your bins full!  Recycling must fall freely out of the bins.  Our staff pick up from approximately 1,500 households each day and it is not feasible to stop, even occasionally, and pull out recycling that has been stuck to the bottom of the bins.
  • Recycle a lot!  You may want to purchase additional recycling bins at the Engineering/Public Works Office at 944 James Street, or if you cannot wait until we are back in your neighbourhood, please take advantage of our recycling depot at the end of Clarke Street South.  Please visit our Recycling Collection page for addition information on our recycling depot and operation hours.
  • During the winter season, please be sure your garbage and recycling is visible and not hidden by vehicles or snow banks.  For safety reasons, our staff will not climb snow banks to retrieve recycling or garage bags/bins. T hey must be places as close to the curb as possible. See bullet item #3 above.
