Woodstock EnviroDepot

The City of Woodstock is opening an environmental transfer station at the corner of James Street and Springbank Avenue.  Construction began in May, 2017 and was completed in Winter 2018.  Details of the operation were being fine-tuned to get us ready for the opening taking place June 2018.  The need for a depot was first identified in the 2011 Woodstock Waste Diversion Plan as another step to increase diversion of material from the landfill.  In 2014 the City applied to the Small Community Fund for partial funding of the design and construction of an Environmental Depot.  In 2015 the City was informed that it was successful in obtaining 33% funding from each the Provincial and Federal governments.  Design began shortly afterwards.

The EnviroDepot enables the City of Woodstock to have a bigger impact on the environment by offering a means to divert material from the landfill and provides a convenient location for Woodstock and Oxford County residents to drop off bulk items not appropriate for weekly curbside garbage waste.  The opening of a depot means that residents can drop off their bulk items year around rather than wait for their next curbside bulk collection pick up week.

The new facility houses several areas to take waste and have it shipped to the proper facility for further processing.  Areas includes disposal of electronics, tires, bulk or large items, toilets, concrete, asphalt, construction debris, white good (appliance), oil and antifreeze, propane tanks and household hazardous waste.  Visit our side panels to see what material are acceptable and what is unacceptable, disposal fees and what you can expect at this transfer station.

Please Note: The EnviroDepot is not set up to take household garbage or blue-box materials. Blue box materials can be dropped off at the Woodstock Recycling Depot on Clarke Street South.  Residents will still be required to put these items at the curb on their collection day.  The depot is intended for residential use.  No contractors or commercial businesses may drop off items at this site.  Fees apply to some materials & non-city residents.

The most effective way to reduce waste and protect our environment is to reuse, reduce and recycle.  Before dropping your items off at the depot, see if you can donate your items to a family member, friend or organziation!

REgift - give furniture and other large items that are in good condition to relatives or friend who could put them to good use.

REuse - Donate items to an organization that accepts used goods.

REdistribute - post items on buy and sell websites. It is easier than you think!
