WAG Visual Elements 64 Lisa Gerrard, black & white or enigma
Lisa Gerrard, London
black & white or enigma, 2022
acrylic and impasto on canvas
“My paintings are about creating textures that entreat the voyeur to touch them. Textures also reflect light, creating variations in the image from different viewing perspectives. The contrast between the black ground and white, raised surface is well-defined and hence, obvious. Yet, the sculpted design allows the viewer to find hidden images within, unique to each imagination. As in life, what appears to be simply ‘black or white’ may hide the enigma of life experiences.”
