“The national flower of Japan, the cherry blossom (or sakura), represents a time of renewal and optimism. The Japanese reflect on them every year during a custom called hanami, meaning ‘flower viewing.’ The pictures in this work were taken on my trip to Kyoto, Japan, and printed on paper for me to use in this collage, along with Chiyogami papers and gampi washi papers painted with acrylic inks. The blooms in the collage are the actual pictures of the blooms that I took while there.”
