WAG Visual Elements 63 Virtual Exhibition
Visual Elements 63: Annual Juried Exhibition
The Visual Elements: Annual Juried Exhibition is a celebration of talent and artistry that surrounds the Woodstock Art Gallery. Predating the formation of the Woodstock Art Gallery, the first open-call art exhibition of local artist occurred in 1959. This initiative led to the formation of the Oxford County Art Association. Shortly after, the Oxford County Art Association lobbied various levels of government for the creation of the Woodstock Art Gallery as a part of Canada’s centennial initiatives.
Initially located in the lower levels of the Woodstock Public Library and called the Centennial Art Gallery, the Woodstock Art Gallery first opened its doors to the public on June 5, 1966. Fast forward to 2021, the Woodstock Art Gallery continues to be the leading resource for creativity and arts education in Woodstock and Oxford County.
In years past, this community favourite has been the banner exhibition of the summer season. Due to the ongoing pandemic in 2020, Visual Elements 62 was presented in a virtual format with surprisingly favorable results. In response to the ever-changing circumstances, for 2021 the online portion of the exhibition was launched on July 14 on the Gallery’s website along with the Peoples’ Choice Award voting. As part of the Gallery’s long awaited reopening and honouring our commitment to celebrating local artists, we are delighted to present Visual Elements 63 as the highlight of our fall line-up.
The Woodstock Art Gallery would like to thank jurors Daniel Cairo, Andrew Kear and Jaquie Poole for undertaking the critical task of selecting the artwork for this year’s exhibition. The WAG congratulates all submitting, participating and award winning artists for Visual Elements 63. The Gallery also wishes to acknowledge the support of Oxford Community Foundation, which assists the WAG in continuing to produce high quality exhibitions and programs.
Funded by Oxford Community Foundation through the B & R George Fund and the Ross & Fran McElroy Fund.
