Taste of Art 2024

A Decade of Taste, A Lifetime of Art

It’s hard to believe that we have celebrated 10 years of our Taste of Art Fundraiser. This event would not have been possible without the ongoing support of our community, and we want to extend our sincerest gratitude to our attendees, vendors, entertainers, volunteers, suppliers, donors and sponsors!

For those who weren’t able to join us, here are some highlights:

  • Raised over $1,800 for the Shelley Niro Art Acquisition Fund through the Silent Auction
  • Sampled food and drinks from 16 vendors
  • Demos and tastings with Cheesy Cow Co., Chris Seafood, and 180 Drinks
  • Captured memories at the Petals 2 Posh photo booth
  • Danced and sang with The Wright Stuff Band and Jack Redman Music
  • Created a community art project; now on display in the 2nd floor hallway

Fundraising

Shelley Niro Art Acquisition Fund

This year, we will be raising funds to help purchase an extraordinary series of photographs by artist Shelley Niro for the Woodstock Art Gallery Permanent Collection.

Shelley Niro is a member of the Turtle Clan, from the Bay of Quinte Mohawk at the Six Nations Grand River Reserve, and she currently resides in Brantford, Ontario. Niro was the inaugural recipient of the Aboriginal Arts Award from the Ontario Arts Council in 2012. Her accolades include the Governor General’s Award for the Arts and the Scotiabank Photography Award. She is also an honorary elder in the Indigenous Curatorial Collective.

The Woodstock Art Gallery is seeking funds to acquire the Borders Series, comprised of four works that portray outstretched hands amid rows of symbolic imagery. These works reference wampum belts—traditional Indigenous artifacts that record traditions, histories, laws, and treaties. Borders Series explores relationships and agreements, whether between individuals or nations. The Gallery’s Permanent Collection currently includes limited works by fine art photographers, and this acquisition will fill that gap while enhancing the representation of Indigenous artists in the Collection.

This is a remarkable opportunity to acquire work by an internationally acclaimed artist with strong local connections.
