WAG New Impressions 2 Virtual Exhibition
New Impressions 2: High School Juried Exhibition Virtual Exhibition
The second annual New Impressions: High School Juried Exhibition offers high school students in Oxford County the opportunity to take part in a professional juried art show experience. Young artists are guided through every step of the process including artwork submission, professional documentation of work, the jurying procedure, and formal critique from local arts professionals, with awards for Best in Show and Juror’s Choice. Last year, the inaugural innovative virtual program was shortlisted for the 2021 Galeries Ontario/Ontario Galleries (GOG) Public Program Award.
Staying connected and engaged with the community during times of crisis and change is important to the Woodstock Art Gallery now more than ever, and we acknowledge our responsibility to provide meaningful, accessible, and inclusive programming for young adults. Arts education is especially valuable as it supports students in developing higher learning skills such as critical thinking, problem solving, and communication, while encouraging creativity and self-expression which are much needed during times of crisis and change.
The WAG Education Department is proud to continue our partnership with lead sponsor djDesign Inc., and media sponsor Heart FM. This year, we are also excited to announce that the Best in Show award has been generously provided by Highlander Studios in partnership with Why Not Us.
A juried exhibition is a process where artists submit their work to be judged before a panel of experts who blindly evaluate the artwork using a set of specific criteria. Once the jurors examine the works and make their selections, the works are displayed for the pubic to view and celebrate.
New, emerging, and established artists use juried exhibitions to test new concepts, explore new media, connect with like-minded individuals, and receive valuable feedback from arts professionals. A juried exhibition is a great opportunity for artists to build skills but, most importantly, it is meant to be a fun and creative learning experience.
Congratulations to all who participated and to those who were selected! The Woodstock Art Gallery is excited for the opportunity to continue working together to build a stronger, healthier, and more connected community of young artists and innovators.
