The Creator is a portrait of the American musician Tyler, the Creator. I heavily incorporated textural materials on the canvas, from the sand in the facial hair, to the nail head earrings, to the burlap scarf that all helped me to illustrate his unique, evolutionary view of creation. Painting in a realistic style required careful paint mixing and close attention to light, shadow and warmth in his skin tone. I utilized layered impasto techniques to create interesting lines and grooves that stand out against his face, creating a mood of quiet but distracted thinking to the side of his vision.
