The idea for this piece came to me the same way as the sun rises — slowly yet steadily lighting up my mind. Many elements of this piece are flower symbolism, and all of the flowers in the crown signify my family, using their birth month flowers. The girl pictured is me. The carnations in and around the background are used to show healing and strength, and the sunset signifies the end of a chapter in one’s life. This piece is partially a tribute to my late younger brother, and the resiliency my family has shown in the face of loss.
