The Permanent Collection
Since its founding in 1967, the Woodstock Art Gallery has carefully built a collection of over 1,900 artworks and artifacts. Close to 10% of the collection has been certified as Canadian Cultural Property.
The Gallery’s permanent collection showcases works by local, regional and national artists, with a particular focus on the work of Woodstock artist Florence Carlyle (1864–1923). Recently, the Gallery has expanded its collection of prints to complement our vibrant new printmaking studio.
Donating to the Collection
The Woodstock Art Gallery's collection has grown through generous gifts of works of art and the financial support of individuals, organizations, and various levels of government.
The Gallery’s collection priorities are to:
- collect high quality works of art within a regional context and with relevance to the artistic history of the region.
- collect contemporary and historic works of art by outstanding regional artists.
- collect contemporary and historic works of art by Canadian artists of national stature.
- collect art and artefacts relating to Woodstock artist Florence Carlyle.
- collect prints by outstanding regional, national, and international artists.
The Woodstock Art Gallery’s Collection Committee meets a minimum of four times a year to assess all potential permanent collection acquisitions. They consider factors such as quality, authenticity and provenance, relevance to the collection, condition, value to the community, cost, storage requirements and legal considerations.
If you are interested in donating an artwork to support the permanent collection, please consult our Donor Information Sheet.
