New Impressions 3: High School Juried Exhibition

This young adult initiative offers Oxford County high school students the opportunity of a professional juried art show experience! Young artists will be guided through every step of the process including artwork submission, professional documentation of work, the jurying procedure, and formal critique from local arts professionals. Prizes will also be awarded for Best in Show and Juror’s Choice.

Artist submissions will be accepted through an online registration form. Please read the terms of entry and file requirements below for details.

Terms of Entry

  • Open to students in Grades 9 – 12 who live or study in Oxford County. All submitting students will become student members of the Woodstock Art Gallery for one year. If students under the age of 18, caregivers are required to complete, sign, and submit a release form.
  • No entry fee.
  • Maximum of two works per student.
  • All artwork and artist statements will be submitted through the online registration form. Email entries will not be accepted. Please see below for file requirements.
  • The WAG reserves the right to refuse any artworks due to questions of copyright, ownership and/or authorship.
  • All works must have been completed within the last 18 months, are wholly original, and have been created by the submitting student.
  • Artworks previously displayed at the WAG (in the Gift Shop, Art Rental Program or other Community Exhibitions) are ineligible.
  • Please be as specific as possible when listing the medium of the entry.
  • The jury’s decision is final. No entry may be withdrawn after the virtual exhibition is launched on Thursday, April 20, 2023. The exhibition will remain on the WAG’s website indefinitely.
  • Students whose work is selected by the jury will be notified by April 14, 2023.
  • Students will be paid an artist fee of $50 for each selected artwork. A direct deposit form will be provided upon notification of acceptance and must be completed and returned in order to receive payment.
  • Award recipients for Best in Show and Juror’s Choice will have the opportunity to display their artwork in-person at the Gallery. Arrangements will be made upon notifying the student of their award.
  • Works will not be available for purchase through the virtual exhibition. If the WAG receives an inquiry from a prospective buyer, the information will be forwarded to the student. The WAG will not collect commission on any sales that may have resulted from the exhibition.
  • By entering the exhibition, students grant the WAG the right to use images of artwork(s) for the virtual exhibition, publicity, advertising, educational reference, and social media.
  • Registration forms and artwork must be submitted online by Thursday, March 16, 2023 at noon to be considered for the exhibition. No late entries will be accepted. No email entries will be accepted.

File Requirements

  • Images should be well lit, clear and as high quality as possible. If your artwork is accepted by the jury, the images submitted during registration will be used in the virtual exhibition. Images deemed low quality will not be accepted.
  • Each 2D work may be represented by one view.
  • Each sculptural entry may be represented by up to three different views. Multiple views are recommended for 3D works.
  • For each artwork submitted, please provide a 100 word artist statement. The WAG reserves the right to edit statements for length or clarity.
  • Files must be labelled: “Student’s Last Name_Title of Work” (ex. Smith_MyArtwork). Add a number to the file name if you are submitting multiple views (ex. Smith_MyArtwork_1).
  • Images should be submitted as JPG, JPEG or PNG files only. Statements should be submitted as DOC or DOCX files only. The registration form will not accept PDF files.
  • File resolution must be no larger than 300dpi to a maximum of 2 MB. A minimum width and/or height of 1000 pixels is recommended.
  • No email submissions — registration form uploads only.
