Abstract Imperfection, 2020
Lino

My inspiration was something that everyone uses daily so I made a hand but I made it “perfect” by separating the fingers like the expression in Italy for perfect.  My friend Sterling motivated me to keep making and push through to finish my lino. I try to convey the message that everything is perfect and not perfect at the same time.  I started my art with a tracer of the print and then cut onto styrofoam then on lino.

Swirling Stars, 2020
Lino

I chose to make a ninja star looking flower because it reminds me of safety and comfort. These two stars are symmetrical from each other and this made me think of a name swirling stars because it kind of looks like they’re swirling in circles. I came up with the idea to make this because I was looking up a picture of patterns and then I came up with this idea. An influence for this project was the snow because it’s winter and it has been snowing a little bit. Also, I like how snowflakes look.

Crumbling World, 2020
Lino

I named my piece of art Crumbling World because so far in 2020 things haven’t been going great and the disorganization is showing that the world is crumbling. We’ve discussed World War 3, a new virus has started, Australia was on fire, and 1 in 4 people worldwide suffer from a mental illness. Therefore, we are failing the world and each other. This represents how we need to help more people and be more giving or the world and all our lives will end. I also like cubes.

Carter

Clueless, 2020
Lino

The complex things in life inspire my art piece but when you look at it is quite simple. When I started carving the design on to the foam, I was very careful so it would not cut where I don’t want it to. When I finally cut the lino, I used different colours to represent the different lines in the knot.
