Recreation Programming
As of Saturday, April 3, all Recreation Programs have been cancelled due to the most recent Covid-19 Shutdown. Any upcoming/scheduled program sessions will be postponed. All registered program participants will be contacted via email with further details.
To keep participants safe during COVID-19, class sizes have been decreased as a way to ensure physical distancing between participants. When participants arrive, they will be required to complete a quick COVID-19 Assessment, following the provincial guidelines. Masks are required for all passive programs. For active programs where fitness and physical activity are a component, masks are strongly recommended. Participants are to wear their masks when entering the building and waiting for the program to begin, and may remove it once physical activity begins.
Youth Sport and Fitness Programs
Several sport based programs are offered that include a number of progressions beginning with developing fundamental movement skills and physical literacy, and guides children in their skill development to become competent and confident with their athletic and physical abilities. Children will learn through instructional practice, drills, progressions, and game play in a fun and welcoming environment.
Active Kids |
This program combines a variety of sports and activities for kids to get them active and moving, developing physical literacy skills, and having fun! Sports and activities could include soccer, softball, tag, lacrosse, laser tag, and much more! |
Basketball |
Designed using the 3-Tier Bucket Basketball development system, this program is divided into three levels (Basics, Intermediate, Advanced) to suit various skill levels and ages. |
Tennis |
This is an introductory level program and will stress racquet and ball control drills as well as skill development in the four basic strokes: forehand, backhand, serve and volley. This program is for players with little or no previous tennis experience. |
Volleyball |
Sport skills development and fun will be the focus. Children will learn through instructional practice, drills, progressions and game play in a welcoming environment. |
Adult Fitness Programs
There are several fitness programs available that will help keep adults active and engaged. These programs are taught by experienced/certified instructors.
Chair Yoga |
This class is perfect for anyone who experiences discomfort in horizontal postures on the back or who may need assistance moving from a standing to laying down position. The chair will be incorporated into the class to assist you as you improve breathing techniques, stabilize your core, and increase your balance. |
Gentle Yoga |
Prepare your body for the day by gently stretching and warming up the muscles. This class is for all levels and will focus on simple flowing sequences and slow-paced movements as you increase balance, strength, and flexibility. Participants should bring a mat, a towel, and a water bottle. |
Yoga-Relax & Release |
Release, relax, and rejuvenate in this yoga program where you will learn to breathe with your movements. Yoga helps to increase flexibility, improve core strength, and realign the body. For all participant levels. Participants should bring a mat, a towel, and a water bottle. |
Pilates |
Pilates improves flexibility, builds strength and develops control and endurance in the entire body. It puts emphasis on alignment, breathing, developing a strong core, and improving coordination and balance. Pilates' system allows for different exercises to be modified in range of difficulty from beginner to advanced or to any other level, and also in terms of the instructor and practitioner's specific goals and/or limitations. Intensity can be increased over time as the body adapts itself to the exercises. Participants should bring a mat and a water bottle. |
HIIT Strong Nation |
STRONG Nation™ combines body weight, muscle conditioning, cardio and plyometric training moves synced to original music that has been specifically designed to match every single move. Every squat, every lunge, every burpee is driven by the music, helping you make it to that last rep, and maybe even five more. Participants should bring a mat and a water bottle. |
Learn to Run |
Running can be something you use to challenge yourself and also to reward yourself! During these unprecedented times, running allows you to take control of your own health and well-being. Join the last “Learn to Run” program you will ever need! Learn how to make running a safe, easy, and enjoyable part of your health lifestyle! No experience necessary! Just a desire and commitment to a healthier you! |
Zumba |
Tone and sculpt your body with Zumba Fitness, the exercise in disguise! This cardio based fitness class combines Latin dance and fun music. Easy to follow, lots of fun, and no dance experience required! |
Yogalates |
Yogalates is a unique combination of Yoga and Pilates that was created to enhance your core stability, breathing control, flexibility, and strength. Come on out and challenge yourself with this special fitness class. Participants should bring a mat and a water bottle. |
General Recreation Programs
There are a range of programs that will allow children to be creative, learn, and have fun. These may include more active programs, and programs that are educational based.
Nerf Warriors (Laser Tag) |
Prepare for battle with this exhilarating program. Children will participate in a variety of activities while working on their dodging, aiming, and shooting skills using Laser Guns. |
Parent and Tot Dance |
In this program, parents will help their children learn basic dance fundamentals to some fun and energetic music. This will also help prepare them for the Dancing Kids program. |
Thrive After Five |
Looking for a fun and engaging program with lots of variety? Then this is for you! Each week, children will participate in a different activity that may engage them physically, socially, or creatively, Activities may include dance/movement, crafts, games, and much more! |
Ukulele |
This program is for participants who want to learn how to play the ukulele. Participants will learn in a small group setting at their own pace under the direction of our expert instructor and develop their talent throughout the session. Participants must bring their own ukulele. Music stands & material will be provided. Masks must be worn during the program. |
Guitar |
This program is offered at a Level 1 & Level 2. Participants will learn in a small group setting at their own pace under the direction of our expert instructor and develop their talent throughout the session. Participants must bring their own guitar and guitar picks. Music material will be provided. Masks must be worn during the program. |
Stemotics |
Stemotics - LEGO WeDo Advanced Robtoics 2.0 Construction Set, aimed at children aged 5-10 includes LEGO bricks with one motor, two sen- sors, and a hub that connects the model to the computer. Simple drag-and-drop visual programming software is then used to bring the model to life. With this kid-friendly approach, the set makes learning fun, inspiring and engaging. Kids learn about complex topics in the fields of physics, engineering, and programming, as well as develop motor and cognitive skills through robot building, all as they have fun with LEGO bricks. There are a range of programs that will provide children with the opportunity to grow, develop, and learn new skills relating to leadership and independence.
My Safe Life |
In this interactive and fun safety program, kids learn and practice skills for a lifetime of safety. Traditional and digital gaming techniques are used to cover topics like People Safety, Appropriate Social and Digital Behaviours, Safe Travels, Online Safety, Getting Help, Fire Safety, Accident Prevention and Basic First Aid. Children take home the SOS4Kids My Safe Life manual and card of completion. |
Home Alone |
Is your child ready to stay home alone? The Home Alone Safety for Kids program helps children and their families get ready for their child’s first steps towards independence and being without adult supervision. Safety and accident prevention are the common theme throughout the program. |
Babysitting Training |
In this course, participants learn how to run a small babysitting business and how to supervise younger siblings or other children in a safe and responsible manner. Aspiring babysitters also learn basic first aid skills. |
Snow Buddies |
Interested in helping out a neighbour this winter? Or do you still need to earn community volunteer hours for school? Help out with driveway and sidewalk shoveling this winter. You will attend a brief training that will include topics like Health and Safety, proper shoveling technique, and customer service. |
