Applications for 2019 Student Summer Students

Each year the City of Woodstock proudly employs more than 80 students in our community. Applications for our 2019 Summer Student positions will open on December 17th, 2018 at 8:00am and will close on January 20th, at 4:00pm. We encourage any student who will be starting or returning to post-secondary education in September 2019 to browse the available positions.

Students are encouraged to review the job descriptions. Please note that minimum qualifications, salary rates and other information can be found by clicking on the link at below each position. Students should apply for each positions for which they meet the qualifications and are for which they are interested in being considered.

Summer Student - Accessibility Researcher

The student will work under supervision of the Deputy City Clerk with input from the Woodstock Accessibility Advisory Committee. The student’s duties will include:

  • Updating and creating accessibility brochures and public information provided by the City of Woodstock and the Woodstock Accessibility Advisory Committee;
  • Preparing promotional campaign material such as ads and newsletters;
  • Administering required training;
  • Working special events (Streetfest) including assembling a portable display for use at events;
  • Reviewing information regarding the Integrated Accessibility Regulation 191/11 under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005.  Assisting with the development of the necessary policies to comply with the legislation;
  • Draft policies and reports related to accessibility issues as well as Accessibility Plans;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Summer Student - Activity Leader

The student's duties will include:

  1. Responsible for the direct supervision of Summer Activity participants
  2. Responsible for custodial duties in the designated program areas
  3. Responsible for reporting to the Supervisor
  4. Responsible for the development and delivery of the Summer Activity Programs
  5. Responsible for the tracking of programs, attendance, incidents, and accidents

Summer Student - Activity Site Supervisor

The student's duties will include:

  1. Responsible and accountable for the direct supervision of summer activity staff
  2. Follow the City of Woodstock’s Policies and Procedures
  3. Responsible for the direct program delivery at program sites  
  4. Responsible for the direct supervision of program participants  
  5. Must ensure program quality and expectations are met
  6. Responsible for coordinating transportation for all camp programs

Summer Student - Inclusion Facilitator

The student's duties will include:

  1. To provide children with special needs the opportunity to develop social, cognitive and physical skills through participation in recreation summer programming
  2. Share in preparation, development, implementation, and evaluation of playground activities and off site excursions.
  3. Communicate and share pertinent information and feedback regarding participants involvement with Summer Activity program supervisor, City Staff and family
  4. Maintain CONFIDENTIALITY of parents, children and fellow caregivers
  5. Provide a safe, clean and enjoyable learning environment on and off site
  6. Provide 1:1 individualized assistance to children with special needs including some personal care
  7. Attend all training as required (Inclusion, City of Woodstock, PHCD, Behaviour Management)
  8. Design and co-ordinate promotional material and their distribution related to programs and activities as assigned
  9. Physical demands are required of this position; including lifting, running, bending etc. 
  10. Program planning of daily activities, presenters and off site trips

Summer Student - Wading Pool Attendant

The student's duties will include:

  1. Responsible for the direct supervisor of Wading pool patrons
  2. Enforce  and Maintain City of Woodstock Policy and Procedures
  3. Enforce and maintain provincial Wading Pool Guidelines
  4. Responsible for custodial duties in the wading pool area
  5. Responsible for the sale and cash handling at concession stand
  6. Responsible for the taking payments and tracking patron numbers
  7. Provide first aid when required

Summer Students - Art Gallery

The Woodstock Art Gallery has five positions available:

Front Desk Attendant:  greets visitors and assist with the duties regarding memberships, gift shops sales, events and communications.

Curatorial/Collections: works with the permanent collection and assists in the organization, research and development of exhibitions.

Summer Programmer: plans, develops and runs six weeks of Art Camps for children ages 5-12.

Assistant Summer Programmer:  assists with the execution and preparation for the Art Camps.

Art Camp Assistant: assists with the running of the Art Camps.

Summer Student Labourers - Public Works, Parks, Water

Student positions are available in the departments of Public Works, Parks and Water. Applicants will be required to rank the department they are most interested in working when applying.

Summer Student Desk Attendant - Aquatics

The student's duties will include:

Performs receptionist duties for Aquatic Division, such as, but not limited to:

  • responds to telephone and counter inquiries,
  • receives and process aquatic facility bookings and Program registrations,
  • knowledge of all programs,
  • monitors activities of public in change rooms and lobby,
  • Keyboarding, typing reports, computer input, photocopying/faxing.

Performs cashier duties, such as, but not conclusive:

  •    processes program registrations and fees,
  •    receives admission fees and issues tickets for public swim sessions,
  •    prepares daily cash reconciliation,
  •    prepares bank deposit slips,
  •    operate class and debit/credit card machine,
  •    sells merchandise e.g. goggles etc.,

Woodstock Public Library - Activity Leader

The student's duties will include:

1. Plans and conducts art and activity based programs for children and teens;
2. Prepares all materials needed for each program;
3. Prepares the program space for each program and cleans the space after the program’s completion;
4. Keeps track of attendance statistics;
5. Assists Public Service staff in the preparation of Summer Reading activities;
6. Supervises summer program participants.
