Posted on Tuesday November 15, 2022

Woodstock – Members of Council were official sworn in this evening for the 2022-2026 term. The ceremony took place at Woodstock City Hall and was performed by Deputy Judge Trudy Mauth.

Mayor Jerry Acchione assumed his new role but is no stranger to Woodstock Council, having previously served eight years as City Councillor. This term of council also sees the return of Councillors Deb Tait, Connie Lauder and Mark Schadenberg and welcomes first time members of Council Kate Leatherbarrow, Bernia Wheaton and Liz Wismer-Van Meer.

Closing out the ceremony, Mayor Acchione delivered his inaugural address touching on some of the issues this council will face over the coming four years. Some of those key issues include:

  • Improving collaboration with other levels of government
  • Addressing growth related challenges and opportunities
  • Supporting people and businesses through periods of economic uncertainty
  • Planning investments in our assets and infrastructure to meet the communities needs

“I am humbled by the support I’ve received and honoured to serve as your Mayor for the next four years,” said Mayor Acchione. “I am excited to work alongside this great council on your behalf. Throughout my campaign I, along with many of my fellow members of council, made a promise to be more open, transparent and accountable to the public. We encourage everyone to look for opportunities to learn, get involved and to help us build the community we’re all proud to call home.”

The first official council meeting of the new term takes place Thursday, Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. The agenda can be found online at
