Heavy Rains Cause Flooding and Field Closures

Posted on Wednesday July 17, 2024

The heavy rains across southwestern Ontario over the past few days have saturated the ground and resulted in some sportsfield and trail closures in Woodstock.

On Wednesday, July 17, the following sportsfields are closed:

Cowan Park Sports Plex, 895 Ridgewood Dr.

  • Premier Soccer
  • Toyota Field
  • Field G
  • Field H
  • Football

Southside Park, 192 Old Wellington St. S.

  • East Diamond (baseball)
  • Junior Soccer

Sutherland Park, 687 Sutherland Dr.

  • Baseball Diamond

Further closures may be necessary as conditions change.

The City has also closed all trails in Woodstock due to flooding except for the Sliver Trail north of the river and Herbert Milnes Trail. The trails will remain closed until the water levels recede.

Upper Thames River Conservation Authority issued a statement on Wednesday about impacts across the watershed and warning people to avoid recreational activities (fishing, canoeing, hiking, etc.) in or around water due to rapidly changing conditions.
