Fireworks Ban Reminder

Woodstock, ON – Leading up to the Victoria Day long weekend, the City of Woodstock would like to remind residents that personal firework displays are not allowed within Woodstock.

“We know this will be a change for some people and that’s why we wanted to remind residents about the new rules,” said Woodstock Fire Chief Jeff Slager. “City bylaw, Woodstock Police and the Woodstock Fire Department will be out over the weekend to address complaints and concerns.”

In 2023, Council approved a change to the City’s bylaw to prohibit the sale and discharge of consumer fireworks in the City. The decision came in response to a growing number of complaints of people not following regulations under the previous bylaw.

A ban on fireworks makes it easier for enforcement of violations and reduces the risk of fires, injuries, property damage, noise complaints and air pollution. Banning personal fireworks displays also reduces the negative impact on pets, wildlife and their habitats.

The public is encouraged to contact the Woodstock Police Service non-emergency line at 519-421-2800, extension 9 if they see or hear someone setting off fireworks in Woodstock. The fine for setting off fireworks in Woodstock is $400 and the fine for selling fireworks is $1,000.
