Public Input Sought on Proposed Boundary Adjustment

Posted on Monday June 17, 2024

Oxford County, ON – City of Woodstock and Norwich Township property owners can lean more about the proposed boundary adjustment between the communities (or municipalities) at two public meetings on June 27. Staff from both the City and Township will share information about the details of the proposal.

“At this stage, nothing is decided. The boundary adjustment committees have prepared a draft proposal and now we are looking for input from the public,” said Woodstock Chief Administrative Officer David Creery. “Once the feedback from the public meeting is taken into consideration, details in the boundary adjustment proposal will be finalized and submitted to our Councils for final consideration.”

The process for considering boundary adjustments is dictated by the Municipal Act (Part V, Sec. 171-173). Before the proposal can be considered by the local councils, at least one public meeting must be held to consult with the public. The proposal can only be submitted to the province for approval if Woodstock City Council, Norwich Township Council and Oxford County Council all approve it.

While the driving factor in exploring the boundary adjustment is the needed realignment of Pattullo Avenue, the Boundary Adjustment Committees also considered the short- and long-term needs and opportunities. Because of the location, the lands proposed to be included in the boundary adjustment are ideally suited for potential future employment land and could be redeveloped if property owners choose to sell.

“Both municipalities welcome feedback on the proposal and encourage residents to provide written feedback to ensure both Councils have the needed public input to make an informed decision,” said Norwich Township Chief Administrative Officer Lee Robinson.
